  1. Take up every opportunity

University is so much more than your academic studies! There are so many opportunities out there for you to get involved and my first top tip is to say yes to these. Whether it is becoming a participant in a research study, volunteering with one of our partners such as Liverpool FC foundation or joining in with one of JMSU’s campaigns. There are so many different ways to make the most out of your time at university so see which one works for you.

  1. Join a sport and society

My top tip of them all is join a sport or society. Try something you’ve never tried before or join a group with the same interest as you. So many people meet their best friends in these groups and play a huge part in the wellbeing of students. You do not have to be a fresher to join student groups you can be a student in any level of study. If you can’t find a society that is right for you, then start your own!

  1. It’s okay to say no

This is your student experience and you can shape it however you wish. If you don’t want to go on that night out or don’t want to spend your money on fancy dress then you do not have to. Say yes to things that are going to enhance your student experience and get the most out of your time in Liverpool.

  1. Explore the city

Your time goes so fast, so make the most of it. There is so much going on within Liverpool so there will be something to do all the time. Whatever your budget may be there is something for everyone and all interests whether its checking out the many museums, climbing the radio tower or taking a boat across the Mersey.

  1. Try new things

Liverpool is a city of lots of different cultures and interests. Try the new cuisines, explore the different music genres and adventure to those places you didn’t think you would. You might even surprise yourself and the opportunities that it opens.

  1. Get involved in the SU

There are so many different ways you can get involved in your SU. We have our partner bars for lots exclusive discounts and offers, our campaigns to improve your student experience and of course our many sports and societies that cover so many different hobbies and interests.

  1. Importance of self-care and wellbeing

Your academic studies are very important at university but not any more important than your health and wellbeing. Take some down time to relax and take a break from studying. There are so many ways to do this so find out what works best for you and immerse yourself into it. You might even find that there is a society you can join with the same interest.

  1. Register with the GP and dentist

You never know when you will get poorly or need a dental emergency and you don’t want to be having to trek all the way home for an appointment! Freshers’ Flu is very real (trust me) so you may need the doctors sooner than you think. These are free to register and you can do it anytime.

  1. Check out the independent shops and cafes

Liverpool is full of so many local businesses. You will find lots of these shops on the infamous Bold St where there are vegan restaurants, vintage shops and international supermarkets along with many other businesses. Check out Lark Lane and Smithdown Road too.

  1. Go on a Lambanana hunt

Outside the Tithbarn Building, you will see the giant yellow SuperLambanana. But this is just 1 of so many across the city. You will find them in many corners of the city with so many different designs and stories. My personal favourite is the tiger, which will yours be?
