Student Group FAQ’s

We understand you may have questions relating to sports, societies, and our services. We will try to address these as we populate a FAQs section below. We will continue to update this page as frequently as we can.

- Updated 8th January 2021 -

When will student sports and societies be able to start meeting or training?

We know how much our sports clubs and societies mean to students and it is our priority to provide safe environments for these activities. Student sport and society activity will be returning gradually, and in a phased way under the new JMSU ‘Return to Activity’ roadmap to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to make events/activities as accessible as possible.

We have been working with colleagues across the University and taking guidance from industry bodies to come up with a framework for safe practice. The ‘Return to Activity’ approach will be subject to constant review, in-light of any announcements from the Government, LJMU, and affiliated bodies.

The JMSU ‘Return to Activity’ roadmap can be found here. Our vision is to return to the ‘new normal’ in January 2021.

Our Current Stage - Stage 1 (Virtual Activity) - Sports and Societies will introduce creative online and virtual activities such as live sessions on social media to online workouts for all new and returning students. There is currently no face-to-face activity in Stage 1, this will be reviewed by JMSU and LJMU in mid-October.

Find out more about our amazing student groups, welcome week activity, and follow @TeamLJMU to get involved in our new campaign #Togetherathome.

Please check back to this page to keep updated on the plans to return to activity.

When will BUCS fixtures restart for the 2020/21 season?

BUCS has outlined their plans for the 2020/21 season in their June Return to Play update. Their FAQs also detail options based on different Return to Play scenarios. Our Sports Coordinator will liaise directly with all club committees as this information is confirmed.

Can I still join a sports club or society next academic year?

Yes! We are working with each individual group to ensure their activity can be delivered safely. We will work on a plan with each group, and revise that as we work through our staged approach.

Will we still need to purchase a membership?

Sports - We are working with each individual sports club on membership costs and when we move to Stage 2 will have a confirmed membership cost for the year. In the meantime, please sign up to the ‘I’m Interested’ membership for each sports club to receive updates and find out more about the virtual events.

Societies - Societies have released membership so you can start joining your favorites.

Will student groups be meeting socially?

Sports and societies will only be meeting virtually in Stage 1 therefore no face to face social meetings. JMSU will be working with the student groups to ensure virtual social activities are accessible to all new and returning students.
