Lila Tamea - President and Chair of Trustee Board

Hi! I'm Lila, your President for the 20/21 academic year. I'm now in my second term as a Student Officer here at JMSU, having served as VP Academic Quality in the 19/20 academic year. I studied Law at LJMU and have been involved in Students' Union activities throughout her time at LJMU. I have a particular interest in Race Equality and has a strong focus in my campaigns throughout my time at JMSU has focused on closing the Attainment Gap and supporting students from marginalised backgrounds.

As President, my role is to ensure that the SU is running effectively and making positive change for students. I am the Chair of our Trustee Board and sit on various committees and meetings at LJMU, including the university's Board of Governors, where I am a Student Governor.

My priorities for the 20/21 academic year are:

Saving Students Money
We know students have less disposable income than most, but the prices around uni don’t always reflect that. I will find ways to save you money as a student at LJMU whether it’s food, travel, or fun! I will lobby the university to improve its financial provision; from scholarships, bursaries and hardship funds to make sure students feel supported throughout their degree.

A Better Postgrad Experience
Working with our Post-Grad Officer, the Doctoral Academy, and post-grads to improve the whole PG experience, creating a better sense of belonging for PGs in the institution!

Ethnic Minority Attainment
If you’re a student from an ethnic minority, you’re statistically less likely to do as well as your white counterparts. This is outrageous! I will make it my priority to improve the BAME experience and tackle the Attainment Gap, making sure the colour of our skin is never predeterminate of your success.
