Full officers

Say hello to your Student Officer team! 👋

Your team for 2023/24 👇

Meet Shaquita, Jasmine, Alexandria, and Clodagh – your 2023/24 Student Officer team. They were elected by you in March 2023, to represent all 27,000 students here at LJMU. They will be working with us for the next academic year to make sure your university days are the best they can be.

Over the course of their time in post, your Student Officers will take the lead on all aspects of the student experience – from supporting activities to running campaigns, and above all, making sure your views are heard and improvements are made where necessary. They will work closely with senior leaders at the University and in Liverpool City to represent you.

Your Student Officers

Step by step guide to becoming a Student Officer

Do you have a passion for democracy, change and representing the student voice?

You could become a full-time Student Officer and represent over 27,000 students here at LJMU, whilst getting paid a salary. Read more about the Student Officer journey today.

Student Officers are responsible for leading change on a local, regional, and national scale.

No two days are the same but prioritising the needs of students are at the heart of the roles.

They plan activities, lead campaigns, attend university meetings and be the voice for 27,000 students. We currently offer four Student Officer roles: President, Vice President Education, Vice President Community and Wellbeing, and Vice President Activities.

Whilst being a Student Officer comes with a salary, securing your place on the team doesn't need an interview - the positions are filled each year through our Student Officer Elections. To be in the running, you'll need to nominate yourself to become an official candidate. Next up, you'll need to keep your eyes peeled for campaign training, then grab some friends to support you ahead of getting out and about on campus to campaign and win votes. If you decide to put yourself forward, you’ll be in good hands – we will support you every step of the way.

We offer candidates support throughout their entire student officer nominee journey.

Each year in March, We ‘launch’ our candidates after a series of workshops, training sessions and wellbeing meet ups to the wider LJMU student body. This will entail of encouraging student voting, speaking to students about the Students’ Union and what we have to offer, and encourage them to get involved in your campaigns. Student Officers are allowed to run for two terms.

Once all votes have been counted at the end of the voting period, candidates will be invited to our Officer Elections Night where the winners will be announced.

What’s next?

The newly elected team will embark on a new journey together; a series of training away days, team building exercises, meeting the wider JMSU and LJMU staff team, and refining their manifesto points before their term starts.

They will be introduced to JMSU’s democratic structures, trustee board and our policies. They will begin their journey as JMSU’s leading staff members.
