It’s our job is to make sure our 27,000 students get the most out of their University experience –
Want to make it yours, too?

Working with us gives the cliché ‘no two days are the same’ a whole new meaning. We’re a small but mighty team, and we put our students at the heart of everything we do – whether it’s planning events, helping to develop campaigns, providing them with opportunities to make friends and learn something new, and everything in between.

If you’re on the lookout for a role in a friendly, hard-working environment which offers bucket loads of autonomy, support and fun, we want to hear from you.

A few words from Paul, our CEO 👋

Thank you for your interest in working at JMSU.

We are passionate about supporting students through their university life and beyond into their future careers, and our staff team are at the core of what we do. As a collective, we are committed to opening up transformational opportunities that students can experience and benefit from; facilitating student leadership, building communities and amplifying their voice.

We are proud of our colleagues and proud of our students. Our students have a long track record in championing issues that really matter to them, their fellow students, the city of Liverpool and society at large.

JMSU is undergoing a real period of change with a renewed partnership with the University, a new home in the Student Life Building, an increasing resource base and a growing staff team with a focus on staff development and our experience.

I hope you feel excited about the possibilities ahead and we look forward to receiving your application.

Taking action on inclusion

We're dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We're proud to be a welcoming, friendly and inclusive team and want all our people to feel comfortable and confident to be themselves and feel they belong.

We have more work to do to achieve this. It's important that students can see themselves reflected in our staff team and so we are particuarly encouraging applications from LGBTQ+ and ethnically diverse candidates who are currently under-represented within our core staff team.

Guaranteed interview scheme for ethnically diverse candidates

We know applicants from ethnically diverse backgrounds may have experienced additional barriers when applying for a new role. We are taking positive action to address an under-representation in our core staff team. We're offering internal and external candidates from ethnically diverse backgrounds a guaranteed interview where they meet the essential criteria for the role.

To secure an interview you must meet the essential minimum criteria for the role as outlined in the job description. Please take time to evidence this in your application form, giving examples where possible. Clearly outline how you can achieve any gaps within a realistic timeframe.

To be considered under this scheme you must select the relevant tick box in section 1 (Personal Details) of the application form. By doing this you are giving consent for us to disclose that you are from an ethnically diverse background, if necessary. Please note this information (Section 1) will still be removed prior to the initialscreening process, however schould the panel agree that you meet the essential criteria,  you will then be guaranteed an interview and the information may be shared with the panel to enable this.

If you do not select this box and provide consent, we will be unable to guarantee you an interview even if your application demonstrates you met the essential criteria. Your application will be considered alongside all other applications. The final selection decision following the interview will be based on the most suitable candidate for the role regardless of background or protected characteristics.

Sally Cloherty

HR Manager

Having spent most of my career in the public sector, working at JMSU was a huge change for me, but I haven’t regretted a moment.

It’s a fast-paced environment, but equally it’s relaxed and there is always lots of activity going on and fun to be had. The staff team challenge themselves to be innovative and give their best, and they are all so engaged and passionate about their roles and what they deliver to our students. It’s a real privilege to support, and be part of, the JMSU team.

Josh Radin

Sports and Physical Activity Coordinator

JMSU is a fun, supportive and forward-thinking place to work, and I enjoy being encouraged and empowered to think of new ways to boost student engagement as part of my role.

Day to day here is fast paced, exciting and provides a great work-life balance. I am proud of the part I play in enhancing the student experience.
