Elections are on May 2nd
You must be registered to vote before you are allowed to vote in elections or referendums in the UK. The registration deadline to vote in local elections is 16 April 2024. If you have any questions regarding voting, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and someone from our team will try and help.

Registering to vote usually takes about 5 minutes, and once you are registered it means you can vote in any UK election or referendum that you are eligible to vote in.
On Thursday 2nd May 2024 elections will be held for a Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside and a Mayor for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
A general election will be held anytime between now and 28 January 2025. The date has not been announced by the Prime Minister yet.
At a general election, you vote for your Member of Parliament (MP) and this in turn determines which political party forms the UK Government.

Students are allowed to register to vote at more than one address if they consider both places to be a permanent home. We know that students often split their time between their term-time address and their home address, so it's important that you are registered at both. Even though you can be registered at more than one address, it is illegal to vote in two places - so you have to choose which address to vote at.

For remote voting, You must apply for a postal vote by Wed 17 April or a proxy vote by Wed 24 April.
What do I need to vote?
You must have valid photo ID to vote. If you have acceptable photo ID which is out of date, you can still use it if the photo still looks like you. You can use any of the following:
- a passport
- a driving licence - including provisional licence
- a Blue Badge
- an older person’s bus pass (it must state it is funded by the government - local travel passes cannot be used - see travel pass guidance for more information)
- a disabled person’s bus pass
- an identity card with Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) mark
- a biometric immigration document
- a defence identity card
- certain national identity cards
