The Environmental Sustainability and Energy Team at LJMU are working on a number of workstreams, including carbon and energy, biodiversity, waste, and travel, among others. Volunteering with the team not only supports LJMU to reach its objectives for environmental sustainability, but will provide learning experiences and opportunities to make a positive impact on campus and in the local community.
Join LJMU Sustainability Team on a Source to Sea litter pick!
We'll be litter picking within the city, collecting data on what we find for the Marine Conservation Society's campaign 'Source to Sea'.
Litter that we find within our seas and oceans often originates in our towns and cities as it gets blown by the wind into our waterways. Litter therefore not only has a negative impact on our plants and animal on land, but also to our marinelife. By litter picking within our cities this helps to improve our environment for animals as they can mistake litter for food, get caught up in it, or injured by it. By joining a local litter pick you can not only help reduce these impacts, but you can have a positive impact in the local community, get outside to improve your physical and mental health, and meet new people!
We will meet at JMSU reception at 1pm and will then head out from the Student Life Building to do a short 40 minute litter pick within the nearby area. LJMU will provide all equipment that you need including gloves, bin bags and litter pickers.
We will send a reminder with more information about meeting times and locations prior to the event.
