The JMSU Buddy Scheme

Find a friend. Share the journey. Shape your experience.

At JMSU, the Buddy Scheme is more than just meeting someone new. It’s about connection, support, and belonging. Whether you’re starting fresh in a new city, adjusting to university life, or looking to give back by guiding others, the scheme offers a chance to build friendships that last. Every conversation, every coffee, every moment shared helps make the transition to uni smoother and more meaningful. This is where confidence grows, communities form, and your LJMU experience becomes something truly special. Having a buddy doesn’t just help you settle in — it helps you thrive.

How It Works

Step 1: Sign Up

Tell us about yourself – your course, interests, and why you’d like a buddy.

Step 2: Get Matched

We’ll pair you with someone who shares similar interests, experiences, or background.

Step 3: Connect

Your Buddy will get in touch after training. Together, you decide how and when to meet – coffee, campus walks, events, or just a friendly chat.

Step 4: Join Events

We’ll host Buddy Meet-Ups where everyone can socialise, relax, and expand their network.

Still Got Questions? Check Our FAQs

How do I sign up as a Buddy or get a Buddy?

It’s easy! Just apply through our online forms — whether you’re looking for a Buddy or want to volunteer as one. We’ll match you up and keep you updated by email once everything is confirmed.

Will Buddies be trained?

Yes. All volunteers complete training before being matched, covering boundaries, safeguarding and signposting, so everyone feels safe and supported.

I’ve just been assigned a Buddy — what’s next?

Say hello! Drop them a quick message, arrange a first meet-up, and chat about how you’d like to spend your time together. Coffee, campus walks or events — it’s up to you both.

What if my Buddy isn’t responding?

Sometimes life gets busy. Try sending a friendly follow-up first. If you still don’t hear back, contact us at jmsuvolunteering@ljmu.ac.uk or call 0151 231 4900 and we’ll help.

Who do I contact if I have feedback or concerns?
