Sustainability

In 2020, JMSU declared a Climate Emergency — a public commitment to take urgent and meaningful action to protect our environment and future. Since then, sustainability has remained central to everything we do.

Working closely with students, we developed our first Sustainability Action Plan, which guided our environmental efforts from 2020 to 2023. This plan led to tangible progress and laid the foundation for continued action — progress that we’ve built on in the years since.

Meet the Ambassadors

Sustainability Ambassadors uphold JMSU values while driving positive change at LJMU and beyond. They engage students in eco-friendly initiatives, attend sustainability meetings alongside full-time officers, and organise council meetings. Ambassadors also campaign for green projects, gather student feedback, and contribute to JMSU’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact.

Sustainability Ambassador

Wildlife Conservation Student

I joined this role to understand how LJMU tackles environmental issues and identify areas for improvement. I'm particularly passionate about enhancing campus visuals with wildflower gardens, promoting student sustainability through recycling and volunteering, and supporting the university's goal of achieving the Eco Campus platinum award.

Sustainability Ambassador

Tourism Management Student

I’m passionate about sustainable development in Liverpool and driving change at LJMU. Through my studies, I’ve explored how small actions like recycling and conserving resources make a big impact. I aim to promote thrifted clothing, improve food sustainability on campus, and foster biodiversity through green spaces.
