Belonging and Finding Your Community at Uni: Islamophobia Awareness Mo

Friday 28-11-2025 - 14:56

November is Islamophobia Awareness Month, and at JMSU we want every Muslim student to feel safe, supported, and valued throughout their time at university.

Whether you are looking for faith spaces, friendship circles, or confidential support, there are many places on campus designed to help you connect, practice your faith comfortably, and feel part of a wider community.

ISOC

The Islamic Society (ISOC) provides a welcoming space where you can make new friends, gain Islamic knowledge, take part in activities, and enjoy social events. You can join ISOC through our website or follow them on Instagram to stay up to date.

Multifaith Rooms

Our multifaith rooms are open throughout the day for prayer, reflection, and quiet spiritual breaks. These spaces are designed to be safe, calm, and accessible to all students.

If you are not sure where your nearest multifaith room is, JMSU and ISOC can help you find it.

Chaplaincy Support

The university’s chaplaincy team includes chaplains and faith advisers who offer confidential, non judgemental support. You can talk to them about faith, wellbeing, personal challenges, or simply drop in for a friendly chat.

They can also advocate for students who experience discrimination, help with signposting, and offer a calm space if you ever feel unsettled or unsure.

Sheik Zane Abdo is the Muslim Chaplain at LJMU. You can contact him via telephone on 07768898056 or email Z.M.Abdo@ljmu.ac.uk.

Attend Events

Throughout the year, you will find events across campus that celebrate unity and help you meet new people. You can find all JMSU events on our website or attend ISOC’s regular activities.

Get Support (You Are Not Alone)

If you experience or witness Islamophobia, or any form of discrimination, support is available. You can contact:

Whether you are attending events, seeking out faith spaces, looking for support, or just settling into university life, you deserve to feel safe and welcome every step of the way.

Your community is here, and we are proud to stand with you.
