Know Your Academic Rights

University life starts with massive goals, but the actual experience can sometimes differ from what was expected. First-year students might realise that their lectures do not match their original expectations, while second-year students frequently find that their chosen modules are completely different from what they had imagined.

When these things happen, you do not have to stay quiet or just accept it. Each student deserves a quality education a great learning experience that is value for money and worth their time.

The Office for Students strictly enforces rules to guarantee that learning looks and feels excellent, meaning engaging lessons, helpful resources and completely fair grading. Every student deserves a premium academic journey and knowing what to expect sets a strong foundation for the entire academic year ahead.

How to Share Your Feedback

If your course does not meet these standards, the best step is to send your feedback directly to the right people. A dedicated team of student voice leaders stands ready to speak up for their peers on academic quality:

Speak to your Course Rep if you have feedback around your teaching and learning on your modules and in your classrooms

School reps share bigger course issues with senior staff at the university, spotting themes of issues and best practice across courses

JMSU Student Officers support student rights across the whole of LJMU, namely your VP Education, Lj Dunster, who represents academic experience for the whole student body!

This representation is deeply important because the university can only improve when it hears the real truth directly from the students. Sharing honest feedback empowers students to make positive changes to their courses in real-time and keeps the true value of their degrees strong.

So, if you have feedback around things that are going well, or not so well, Find Your Rep here and let them know!

Why Student Voice Matters

I really believe that student voice is the absolute main power at Liverpool John Moores University because this place belongs completely to the students who study here. Our community is here for all students, meaning every single individual from every background deserves to be respected and included from the very first moment.

Without student feedback, a university cannot know how to properly support its people or help them succeed. Valuing different perspectives is an absolute necessity because it creates a real sense of belonging where nobody feels left out. When we share our views openly, we ensure that every person is completely heard and valued in their education.

It is about working together to unlock our full potential and leave a positive impact on everyone around us. Seeing your feedback turn into real actions completely creates your university experience. Your words have the incredible ability to open new doors and create a spectacular environment where every single student can fully thrive.

When we use our voice, we change things for the better and ensure that our student experience is truly extraordinary! Every single student has something unique to share and when our insights become real change, it brings a beautiful wave of positive energy across our entire university.

“When we use our voice, we change things for the better and ensure that our student experience is truly extraordinary!”

When you show up with real dedication and heart, you realise that your voice is the most magnificent force we have to elevate our whole student community.

The Belonging Podcast

Positive feedback turns into real change when we give students a direct place to talk about their university experiences.

Hosting “The Belonging Podcast” is a perfect example of this in action. This is a positive project run with the LJMU Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team and it is mainly about building a deep feeling of belonging to our uni.

On the podcast, I talk about real things that matter, like managing mental health, dealing with university, what it is like being an international student, and most importantly, questions regarding belonging.

It was a huge honour that did lead into a positive impact then, resulting in my nomination for the Student Star category at the JMSU Student Experience Awards 2026.

My Experience as a Curriculum Enhancement Intern

This work connected perfectly with my role as a Curriculum Enhancement Intern, another project that I also seriously loved every single minute of.

I worked directly with faculty staff to find out how students felt about their learning. I worked hard to create professional questionnaires so students had a safe and private way to share their true thoughts on learning resources and lecture engagement.

I noticed that many students found it difficult to stay focused during long lectures and wanted more interactive learning. I analysed the data and presented the findings directly to faculty leaders at the Students at the Heart Conference 2026.

Seeing the academics take the data seriously and change their teaching to be more interactive was an incredible feeling.

Turning Student Feedback into Real Change

These main things mean that I have done something genuinely positive for the university and I would love to do even more than that. It proves that the university really cares about students, which is why sharing our feedback is so essential.

Student voice is literally for students to improve, take action and have a positive impact. I genuinely love helping our community and making our student life the absolute best it can be.

Working together with real passion allows us to turn simple feedback into an incredible reality that creates a perfect future for everyone
