Hey, I’m Lewis! I’ve lived in Liverpool for 3 years now and I’ve found an invaluable part of my experience as a student has been escaping the concrete jungle and finding some peace of mind amongst the trees.
Liverpool has some fab green spaces. Whether that’s for long solo walks listening to music or grabbing a coffee and debriefing with friends at the weekend, I thoroughly recommend having an explore and finding your favourite spots to decompress from the hustle of student life when you need to!
🌳 Sefton Park
Easily accessible on a 6 minute train from Liverpool Central to St Michaels station. Absolute classic. Iconic park in Liverpool. It has some stunning lakes featuring the iconic bandstand with many kinds of birds including Grey Herons, Tufted Ducks and Mute Swans. While you’re here you should also visit the Palm House usually open 10am to 5pm every day.
🏃 Newsham Park
This is the local park for all of you living in Kenny! While it is out the way, it does the job and it’s super local for many Liverpool students. I often use it for my morning / evening runs. It also features a cute lake with a bridge, an outdoor gym and a pavilion.
🌿 Stanley / Goodson Park
This one is more North of Liverpool just between Anfield Stadium and Goodison Park Stadium. It’s quite large featuring winding paths around and over the lake and a Conservatory for events.
☕ Princes Park
This one is kind of like Sefton Park’s little sibling, being adjacent to it and basically a smaller version. Princes Park stands out for hosting its Park Run every Saturday around its perimeter. If you’re looking for accountability to wake up early on the weekends, I’d recommend going along!
🛍️ Chavasse Park
This one is probably the most simple park on the list. At the top of Liverpool One in town, by the John Lewis and just up the iconic seasonal astroturfed steps, is a nice patch of grass. Now, park could be an overstatement but it’s a lovely spot to chill with friends on a warm day before, during or after a shopping trip / day out in town.
⛪ Saint James Mount and Gardens
This one could be considered a hidden gem? (It was certainly hidden for me for the first two years I lived here, I walked right past so many times!) You find this park by going through a little gate on your left as you approach the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, the big gothic style one. You go all the way down this ramp into a former quarry where you’ll find a very pretty and secluded cemetery garden, it’s a peaceful spot away from the noise of the city.
🌅 Everton Park
Lastly, my favourite park. The iconic Everton Park. When I had overseas friends visiting, I took them to this park to see the view of the whole city. You can see the Mersey, Liver Building, St John’s Beacon, and on a clear day, the hills of Wales! The view faces East so it’s perfect for catching the sunset. The park is vast and stretches long so there’s lots to explore through its winding up and down paths. This park has remained a staple for visiting throughout my time at University.
