Debate Mate uses debating as an interactive tool to improve key transferable skills in young people in areas of high educational disadvantage. Our programme is proven to develop critical and creative thinking, empathy, resilience, leadership, teamwork, and above all, core confidence. We recruit and train university students to deliver our programme, who act as inspiring role models and peer-to-peer mentors while delivering our tried and tested curriculum.

Debate Mate tackles educational disadvantage by training university students to run debate workshops in schools with high levels of educational disadvantage. Our sessions boost students’ confidence, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking - helping improve their aspirations and build valuable skills for their future.
