Leaving your accommodation this summer? Leave Liverpool Tidy!

Tuesday 13-05-2025 - 09:54

The time has come to start thinking about clearing out your houses/halls/rooms and getting ready for your next step, whether that’s moving down the road or taking the leap to a new adventure.

JMSU is hosting a Leave Liverpool Tidy day of action on 22nd May to help make your clear out a little bit easier – and more sustainable!

The way it works is simple - gather all the stuff that you do not wish to move to your new place (such as clothes, kitchen equipment, housing decorations or tinned food), and bring them to one of our drop-off points to be collected and repurposed!

📌 The main drop-off location will be the Student Life Building, which will be open from 11am-3:30pm.

Live in the Kensington or Smithdown areas? Don’t worry, there are two more drop-off locations in your area to make it even easier for you to donate your items.

📌 Kensington Fields Community Association Centre, will be open and accepting donations from 12-3pm.

📌 Smithdown area location will be at the Webster Road/ Whithorn St junction (L7 6PA) and will be accepting donations from 11am-3.30pm.

Keep reading for FAQs on everything you need to know about donating.

What is Leave Liverpool Tidy? 🌱

Leave Liverpool Tidy (LLT) is a huge project, in collaboration with British Heart Foundation and Fareshare, that helps give you opportunities to donate your unwanted items and transform your trash into someone else’s treasure.

JMSU are working with LJMU and The Guild, University of Liverpool, Liverpool City Council and other community partners on this huge cross city effort!

From donations to swap shops and litter picks to support your community, there are lots of ways you can get involved with the project and help leave our city shining.

Why should I donate my unwanted items to Leave Liverpool Tidy? ♻️

All donations received will go to support local charities and people in need. On some occasions we will also be running incentives for your donations subject to availability.

What should I do if my items are not accepted? 🗑️

We do our best to try and accept as many of your unwanted items but if we can’t collect it there are lots of other options for your donations.

  • For information about goods that cannot be donated, visit Liverpool Council website for guidance on what can be disposed of in your local bins.
  • Not all plastics can be recycled easily. Visit Terracycles website to find drop off points for materials that are not recycled by your local recycling company.
  • For bulky items that cannot be donated to British Heart Foundation, visit Liverpool City Council’s website and book a collection.
  • Students can request collections via environmentalservices@liverpool.gov.uk marking their email “Student Reclaim items – Leave Liverpool Tidy”. This service is free of charge and the collections can be requested from Tuesday 22nd May to 27th June.
  • BHF donation banks are available year-round at Peach Street Car Park, Vine Court, Dover Court and Greenbank. Donations of the above items can also be made at Guild Reception.

Can I donate my stuff at my student accommodation? 🏢

Yes – some Halls of Accommodation and PBSAs are also accepting donations from 22nd May onwards.

  • Glassworks
  • Abodus
  • Now Students
  • Prospect Point

  • Horizon heights (Unite)
  • Moorfield (Unite)

I’m not moving out yet – can I donate my items another time? 🏠

There are two more Community Days of Actions on 27th and 30th June.

You’ll be able to drop off donations on these dates at Kensington Fields Community Centre and Smithdown ASDA (TBC) from 10am-3pm.

We will also be walking around Smithdown and Kensington and collecting any donations left outside of properties. Please ensure that these are out and ready for collection by 10.30am, DO NOT leave them out overnight.

Please also make sure they are clearly labelled so we know they are donations for LLT.

To make sure we collect your donations please email lgsustainability@liverpool.ac.uk with your address and a contact number.
