The Environmental Sustainability and Energy Team at LJMU are working on a number of workstreams, including carbon and energy, biodiversity, waste, and travel, among others. Volunteering with the team not only supports LJMU to reach its objectives for environmental sustainability, but will provide learning experiences and opportunities to make a positive impact on campus and in the local community.
Join the LJMU Sustainability on a litter pick in Kensington!
Litter picking within our cities helps to improve our environment as animals can mistake litter for food, get caught up in it, or injured by it. Litter is also often blown by the wind into our waterways, ending up in our seas and oceans, thereby having a negative impact on the marine environment and wildlife. By joining a local litter pick you can not only help reduce these impacts, but you can have a positive impact in the local community, get outside to improve your physical and mental health, and meet new people!
We will be heading out from the Student Life Building and walking up to the Kensington area of the city, which takes approximately 20 minutes. LJMU will provide all equipment that you need including gloves, bin bags and litter pickers.
We will meet at JMSU reception at 13:15. We'll then litter pick for an hour to hour and a half; if you need to leave early though thats okay - however much time you're able to give is great! Once we've finished you can leave how you wish or walk back down to the Student Life Building with LJMU Sustainability Team staff.
We will send a reminder with more information about meeting times and locations prior to the event.
