Safety packs have been created for students and distributed in various locations e.g., Fresherβs Fair, pop-up unions, some items have been put out in the SLB for students to take when they need them (example of items in the packs: reusable drinks covers, drinks spiking test strips, condoms, information leaflet with LJMU & JMSU support services).
Night-time Guardian recruitment and promotion has been successful, and the Guardians will be fully trained by 15th November and ready to go out after dates have been set by lead staff (Gabby Sale, Alastair Grills, Alexandria Jones).
Attended the Club Health International conference in Liverpool, which was hosted by LJMU, Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership, and Nighttime Economy Solutions. There were also aspects of student safety which were included, which have been insightful and helped to shape my manifesto goals even more. Topics included:
Planned an event at the SLB on Friday 24th November, the day before EVAWG (Saturday 25th November), for students to attend and find out what support services are available to them.
During the event, various charities such as RASA & WHISC were there to talk to student about the services they offer. There was also be a banner making session where students can attend to make banners for the march and vigil that took place in the city centre on the 25th.
This was in collaboration with various societies such as: Survivors, Feminist, LGBTQ+, Women in STEM, and Psychology.
β Officers from the Guild (University of Liverpool SU) have approached JMSU officers about support for bringing back the night bus. JMSU officers have signed the pledge in support, as well as LJMU.
β Know Your Rights booklet β Working with Rachel Stalker from the Legal Advice Centre to distribute the Know Your Rights booklet, which was an initiative started by a previous officer. The booklet aims to inform students of their rights and how to get support on various issues such as: renting, harassment, discrimination etc.
