I know I have said this at the beginning of almost all my meetings, and here it goes again, this has been such a different and strange year! Last year, around March time when I ran for VP Academic Quality I never expected that three months later I will be starting my induction on my laptop in my little apartment.
Despite my role being completely online I can’t lie I have enjoyed every single bit of it form Induction, Course and Faculty Reps training, International week to hosting the Course Rep Celebration and Amazing Teaching Awards. I have been incredibly proud of all the work I have done with Reps to ensure that the pandemic doesn’t negatively harm your education and build such an engaging community of Student Reps this year! My favourite part of representing all the 26k fabulous students at LJMU has always been to see the positive impact the SU, the officers and our student leaders have on your experience at University.
I believe the skills, experience and confidence gained from being an officer will serve me very well in the long run. The research, the networking, the friendship building, the campaigning, the publicity and so on, there is so much I have learned from being a student sabb.
I have learned to have confidence in what I know and that you’ve got real knowledge by working closely with the student community. So speak up if you think it will help by any means!
This role has given me the opportunity to be a leader in a safe space and articulate my new found skills in my day to day life. It has taught me to use my time wisely and listen and learn from my peers.
I have learnt not to be afraid to accept challenges, don’t feel that any task is beneath you and bring that same passionate campaigning energy you have to any of your tasks in the role.
I believe I have been really lucky to build great relationships with staff at the SU and officers. I would hate to lose touch as some of the people who I have met in the past year will continue to inspire and champion me to make hard life and career choices. You all are amazing and thank you for all your efforts!
I wouldn’t say this is a final goodbye from me as I am staying at LJMU for another year to do my Masters in Public Health, what I can say it is hard to leave! Hopefully, we can all be back on campus in September so feel free to say hi, if you see me all dazed and clueless in one of the libraries!
I would like to wish the new team all the very best, I am sure they all will make a great team and do excellent things!
Thank you to all of you, I would not have been able to do my job without all of you! Thank you for reading the newsletter, sending me emails and engaging with all of the different things that the SU does!
Best wishes,
