Travel to IM Marsh is an area our students continually raise issues about. Last year we worked with the university to introduce a free shuttle bus to campus for a trial period. Whilst this was positive and students really valued the service, demand for this became too great so we have since explored other ways to support IMM students with travel costs.
Using your feedback, Vice President Community Engagement Dan Cole has lobbied the university over the summer with the rest of the sabbatical officer team, leading to the introduction of student only car parking on campus for £1 a day, as well as subsidised travel passes for all 1st year IMM students living in city centre halls. Whilst this has benefitted over 1000 students, many of you who travel to IMM still don’t benefit from any support towards travel costs. As a result of this feedback, Dan has been down at IMM to speak to students about how you feel you could be better supported.
Dan is collating this information, as well as any online feedback, and will be creating a paper to take to the university to express student dissatisfaction, and will hope to get a positive outcome. As well, Dan has also arranged to meet with Merseytravel over the next few weeks to continue discussions about the wider issue of the cost and convenience of student travel passes.
If you study at IMM, Dan wants to hear your feedback about the new travel pass/parking schemes, whether positive or negative and/or how you can be further supported. You can email Dan at vpcommunity@ljmu.ac.uk or you can also tweet any feedback to @LSU_VPC. There is also a petition that has been set up by IMM students that is being supported by LiverpoolSU http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/bring-back-im-marsh-shuttle-bus
