Liverpool John Moores University has scored in the top 10 Universities for nightlife along with Newcastle, Leeds and London in the “Which? Annual Student Survey” Over 12,500 students across the UK rated their University on a range of extra-curricular activities such as nightlife, sports and Student Union activities. We’re proud that we scored so highly and it shows that having good nightlife doesn’t have to compromise safety; Liverpool is one of the safest cities in the UK reflected by its 'Purple Flag Beacon’ status, which is a national award which recognises safe, clean and well-managed city centres at night.
As part of our diverse range of activities we also offer a range of events that aren’t alcohol focussed through our Let’s Try events. These events are supplemented by the cultural partnerships that LJMU continue to develop to offer students free or discounted entrance and benefits at venues such as Everyman Theatre, the Tate and the Philharmonic. Also, through our involvement in the NUS & Home Office Alcohol Impact pilot project, our aim is to promote a responsible drinking culture across campus, with the safety and health & wellbeing of LJMU students at the heart of this.
At LiverpoolSU our students’ safety is one of our main priorities and during our events starting at Welcome Fest we introduce our students to the wide array of diverse nights that Liverpool has to offer through our partners 'Cool It Events' and their various student nights. We also have our Safe Taxi scheme which allows LJMU students to get a taxi home from a night out in exchange for their student card, which they can then collect from the union reception at a later date in exchange for their fare. This scheme has been set up to ensure that LJMU students will never be left stranded late at night.
Dan Cole, Vice President (Community Engagement) at LiverpoolSU said,
"It’s fantastic that LJMU students have voted Liverpool as one of the most vibrant cities to come to study. Liverpool is an amazing city with so much to offer and at LiverpoolSU we continually work with key partners within the city and local area to enhance student safety. Schemes such as Safe Taxi and the work of our Hall and Community Reps are examples of the initiatives we have in place to ensure students feel safe during their time at LJMU and in Liverpool."
