Society of the Month (November) - Law

Monday 14-12-2020 - 08:48

The winner of Society of the Month for November 2020 is Law Society!

Throughout the lockdown, the Law Society really went above and beyond for their members! Here are some of the highlights:

  • Increased membership. They have 93% of the members that they had last year. This is from the society's increased engagement with members from hosting Q&A sessions and attending lectures to promote the society.
  • Committed to supporting diversity. The society has implemented and recruited for 2 new roles in order to make the society more inclusive – a BAME officer and a Social Mobility Officer. They recognise that not all of their events would have been welcoming to certain groups last year and wanted to make a change this year.
  • Mooting competition has been adapted to encourage more people to take part. They have changed the competition into a speed mooting competition so that people can take part without committing too much time and no longer need to take part with a partner – as the society know that many first years would not have had a partner to sign up with as they have been doing their course online.
  • They have worked tirelessly to ensure that people are also enjoying their course, as an academic society they feel this is important. Law Society President has been meeting monthly with the Director of Law School. As a result of this, persuaded the Law School to reverse their decision not to give second-year law students free textbooks.

Law Society is a proactive society and has not let the current pandemic have a negative impact on their members' experience.

If you are interested in joining the society go to the LJMU Law Society page!

Congratulations also to our two highly commended societies for Society of the Month: Catholic & Debating
