A new campaign has recently been launched to inform men that groping women is a crime and the excuse 'it was only a bit of fun' is completely unacceptable. This has been created by Liverpool's community safety partnership, Citysafe, after a number of strategic groups expressed concern about the amount of this type of assault within the city centre.
This campaign will reach across all platforms of social media and also includes training for door and bar staff within Liverpool for them to both recognise this type of crimes and refer victims accordomgly to services such as SAFEplace Merseyside (SARC) and Rape and Sexual Abuse Service (RASA).
LiverpoolSU is proud to be involved in this campaign. Dan Cole, Vice President Community Engagement said:
"LiverpoolSU is keen to be involved in this and similar campaigns which support our core values. Student safety is one of our top priorities and we continually work with LJMU and our city-wide partners to introduce new safety initiatives for students, such as our new LiverpoolSU Safe Taxi scheme. We hope the 'there's no excuse' campaign will make people aware that sexual contact without consent is not banter or just for fun for those on the receiving end. It is serious and there is, literally, no excuse for it. This is an important step in ensuring the safety of our female students whilst at University. Our Women's Campaigner and Feminist Society firmly support the campaign."
This is one of a number of scheme that LiverpoolSU is leading or is heavily involved with. For more information on our new Safe Taxi scheme please click here.
