Back in early November, Josh McDowell (Vice President Activities) met with Jane Kennedy in our Activities Space within the John Foster Building for our bi-annual meeting with the Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside. These meetings are in place so that Jane is able to find out what issues are affecting students at LJMU, University of Liverpool and Liverpool Hope University and ensure that the safety of students remains paramount to Merseyside Police.
Issues that were brought up with Jane included transport, issues within the night-time economy in Liverpool, burglaries across the city and also student safety at night-time within Liverpool City Centre and wider areas. Jane also agreed to look at wider issues affecting students, including the relationships between permanent residents.
On meeting with Jane, Josh said: “It was great to be able to chair this meeting in place of Dan Cole (VP Community Engagement) and tell Jane Kennedy the great things we’ve been up to at LiverpoolSU. It’s also import ant to be able to tell Jane the issues that students face who attend all three Universities in Liverpool as they are quite similar. The issues that Jane has taken away will be worked on by all stakeholders and we’ll be able to update you in early April.”
If you’d be interested in attending the next meeting in April 2015, which will be open to students, please contact community@ljmu.ac.uk for more information.
