We are so excited for our annual Societies and Volunteering Awards this year, and we need your help nominating some exceptional students who have contributed greatly to their club, their fellow peers, and JMSU in general.
We will also be receiving nominations directly from any of our fantastic voluntary organisations to help us to recognise our volunteers.
There are two awards on the night that YOU can vote for who wins. These awards are:

The "Micro-Volunteer of the Year" award celebrates the extraordinary impact by a volunteer who has engaged in a one-off opportunity demonstrating passion and enthusiasm.
This award recognises their exceptional dedication to a short-term project or event, showcasing their commitment to making a meaningful difference, even in the briefest of moments.
This award celebrates individuals whose extraordinary dedication has made a significant impact on the wider community.
Recognising those who go above and beyond in their volunteering roles, these individuals demonstrate an unwavering commitment that positively affects multiple people.
Their efforts have had a real impact on the community and organisation.
The "Officer's Choice" award celebrates individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment during volunteering opportunities.
These nominees have actively engaged with the Student Officer team, showcasing their passion for service and their willingness to contribute positively to the student community.
Their collaborative spirit and proactive involvement have made a significant impact, embodying the values of teamwork, leadership, and community engagement.
This award celebrates the outstanding support and dedication of our partner organisations.
It shows their commitment to work closely with JMSU to empower volunteers and encouraging them to get involved through exciting opportunities.
The "Volunteer of the Year" award celebrates an individual who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to service, logging a minimum of 150 hours of volunteer work.
This nominee has not only met the quantity requirement but has also earned praise and recognition from the volunteer organization for their outstanding contributions.
Going above and beyond the call of duty, they have invested their time, energy, and passion into making a tangible difference in their community.
JMSU are delighted to be able to recognise our volunteers who engage in regular volunteering. The impact that our volunteers have on the community is vast, so we have ensured that there are categories to provide this deserved recognition.
The "Best New Society" award recognises the outstanding achievements of a society established within the last 12 months.
It celebrates their remarkable impact on the student body by actively engaging numerous students and enriching the offerings of the JMSU through innovative events, meaningful initiatives, or inclusive programming, quickly become an integral part of campus life, enhancing the student experience and fostering a vibrant sense of community.
Awarded to the best Creative/Performance Society that has increased membership, hosted frequent opportunities, and worked hard to be there for its members.
Awarded to the best Community/Sustainability Society that has increased membership, hosted frequent opportunities, and worked hard to be there for its members.
Awarded to the best Faith/Cultural society that has increased membership, hosted frequent opportunities, and worked hard to be there for its members.
Awarded to the best Fandom society that has increased membership, hosted frequent opportunities, and worked hard to be there for its members.
Awarded to the best academic society that has increased membership, hosted frequent opportunities, and worked hard to be there for its members.
This is a group that could have been welcoming, helped you feel a sense of belonging, worked to provide additional learning and networking opportunities outside the classroom, or helped provide additional experiences like trips and excursions, that wouldn’t have been provided otherwise."
This award will go to a society that is a recent addition to the student groups community – must have been formed within the last academic year.
Engaging more students than ever through outreach and output for their members and adding to the offer JMSU societies have.
This award will be based upon society online activity in any and all forms of social media, their creativity and how they have engaged members and students at JMSU because of this.
Consistency of posting will also be taken into consideration. Evidence is crucial for your society to be deliberated in this award to please ensure you email anything to vpactivities@ljmu.ac.uk by the 09/03/25.
The "Event of the Year" award celebrates the extraordinary synergy achieved when two or more societies join forces to create a remarkable impact within the JMSU community.
This award recognises the exceptional teamwork, creativity, and dedication demonstrated by these societies in coordinating activities that leave a lasting impression.
This award recognises a society that actively fosters an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment.
Nominees demonstrate a commitment to engaging underrepresented communities, being involved in inclusive events, promoting accessibility, and ensuring all members feel valued and supported.
They can do this by: championing diversity by participating in outreach, EDI training or organising inclusive activities that reflect the needs of a diverse membership base.
Awarded to the person that has been nominated by other societies who has consistently engaged with students and JMSU throughout the year. A person who has been proactive in providing opportunities for society members to connect and make a difference.
The shortlisted societies will go out to a member vote. Once they have been shortlisted, the winners will be decided by members of JMSU student groups!
Awarded to a society that has been nominated by other societies who have made a real difference to their society's experience. A society that has given guidance, inspiration, or collaboration!

The nominee and winner of this award will be announced on the night of the event, adding an element of anticipation and excitement to the celebration. Stay tuned to witness who will be honoured with this prestigious recognition.
This award will be based on society activity throughout the academic year and what this student group has excelled in delivering for their members and being an example for other societies to follow.
This can be through society development, outreach, success internally or other activities.
It's the responsibility of the society committee to nominate final year students from their society for commitment awards.

Student graduating this academic year
Student who has been part of their society team for full 2 years of University OR If Student has been part of a committee at any point.
