Badminton is a fast, dynamic racket sport that’s all about agility, precision, and quick reflexes. Played either in singles or doubles, the goal is to hit the shuttlecock over the net and land it within the opposing side’s court — all while anticipating your opponent’s next move. The pace can be intense, and the rallies are often rapid and exciting, making it a thrilling game to play and watch.
Our Badminton group is open to everyone — whether you’re a seasoned competitor or just curious to give it a go. It’s a fantastic way to stay active, improve coordination, and meet new people in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We offer regular training sessions, friendly matches, and take part in university competitions, with plenty of socials along the way!
Pick up a racket and get involved — it’s fun, fast, and full of great people.

LJMU Badminton Club is more than just a team—it’s a family, welcoming players of all abilities. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn or an experienced competitor, we provide a fun and supportive environment. For seasoned players, we offer competitive opportunities in university and local leagues, but newcomers can also earn their chance to play in matches through practice and dedication.
Our home venue is on Copperas Hill, next to the student life building. Training sessions are held on Fridays from 5:00-7:00 PM, with social sessions on Sundays from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM. Matches take place on Wednesdays at various times and locations, with team captains providing updates. For the first few weeks, committee members will guide new students to the Sports Centre. Two weeks of free taster sessions are available, and if you miss them, we’ll arrange additional free trial sessions.
LJMU Badminton is a tight-knit community where members support and challenge each other on and off the court. We host regular socials, including nights out, meals, and movie nights. Our club sessions create a friendly, competitive atmosphere for players to improve their skills and confidence. Competing in BUCS and local leagues provides exciting opportunities to represent LJMU, with trials held for team selection—but positions can change throughout the year, so keep working hard and you might earn your spot!
Each sports club is led by a student committee responsible for running the club, organising activities, and representing members. The committee is chaired by the Club Captain, with support from other elected roles.
