The Casual Sports Society is a low-commitment, high-fun community for LJMU students who want to stay active, meet new people, and enjoy sport as a social activity. No trials, no fees, no pressure—just a relaxed space to move, connect, and have a laugh.

About Us

We’re the LJMU Casual Sports Society—created for students who love the idea of sport without the stress of competition. Whether you’re a complete beginner, someone returning to sport after a break, or just looking for a way to stay active without rigid training schedules, this is the place for you.

There’s no need to be “good” at anything—we’re all here to have fun. We offer casual, inclusive weekly activities like mini football matches, social runs, games of pool, and bowling nights. We also host themed socials and meet-ups to watch live sporting events together—so even if you're more into sport from the sidelines, you’ll still find your crowd.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of gender, experience, or fitness level. Our focus is on connection and enjoyment, not competition. It's about getting moving, making friends, and having fun.

Key Information

We meet once a week at varied locations depending on the activity. Some of our regular venues include:

  • Powerleague or the Sports Hall for casual football
  • Rileys Sports Bar for pool and social games
  • The Docks or nearby parks for friendly group runs
  • Local bars and venues for themed nights and live match screenings

All events will be announced via our Instagram and WhatsApp group, so make sure to join us online to stay updated!

Why Us?

Not everyone wants to train hard or compete—some of us just want to play for the fun of it. That’s where we come in. The Casual Sports Society gives you a pressure-free way to stay active, socialise, and enjoy sport on your own terms.

There are no membership fees, no try-outs, and no need for any previous experience. Whether you’re looking to get fitter, meet new people, or just have a midweek kickabout, we’ve got something for you. We’re here to break down the barriers to sport and make it accessible, social, and stress-free. So lace up, show up, and join the fun.

Committee

Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
