As a mature student with both parenting and work responsibilities, I feel that the short notice given between personalised timetables being issued and the commencement of studies to be disrespectful to the students of the university.
Trying to balance work, family and studies is difficult at the best of times, but the added pressures of trying to organise child care with less than 7 days notice is unfair and can lead to stress even before our studies have begun.
I also believe that this impacts many other student groups, care workers, disabled students, international students or even just students who have to arrange travel from across the country to be on site prior to the commencement of teaching.
I appreciate that timetabling is a massive undertaking for the university, but surely it would not be too much to ask that a timetable be available from Sept 1st each year, rather than a week's notice?
Even if the required lecture room hasn't been decided, just knowing the lecture time slot is more than enough for people to sort out travel/care arrangements.
As a final year student, I know that I will not see the benefit from this suggestion, but it would be good to know that the university has taken the comments on board and acted to save future stress for subsequent years.

Please can this be looked in to? I have begged for my timetable at the beginning of September every year and my requests haven't been listened to. This needs to change for a more inclusive university
Totally agree with this, having only one week notice is difficult for me as I have to organised my hours with my manager at work. Knowing at least the time slots of each lecture is enough.
I am completely in agreement to this.
Completely agree, childcare is difficult to juggle
