This volunteer role has been created to help support the sessions that KFCA delivers in our centre and out in the neighbourhood.  

We deliver weekly sessions for local people, to help them get online and access a range of online tools, training, skills, information, resources and equipment that will enable them to be more digitally included.   Some people have never used a computer or device before or some will just drop in for access to laptops and to wifi. 

KFCA is

Working under supervision you will have the opportunity to do all or some of the following: 

  • help deliver drop-in sessions that support people to get online for the first time
  • help deliver sessions on specific topics using session plans and workshop formats  
  • share your own IT knowledge & expertise at IT drop-in sessions where people may come with particular IT issues and digital needs such as setting up an email account for the first time, writing a CV, understanding & downloading Apps, learning about how to stay safe online
  • help with allocation of data via free SIM cards
  • help set up IT sessions e.g. setting up tables & chairs, setting out refreshments, getting equipment out / putting it all away at the end, tidying up 
  • suggesting new activities that can help people make the most of digital
  • help charity staff improve their IT & digital skills so we can be more efficient and make a bigger impact

We particularly welcome students sharing the knowledge from their courses & own ideas to help us improve our digital support to local people and within our business.

 

Role requirements:

  • An excellent knowledge of common IT packages is the key requirement for this role:
  • Windows/Safari
  • Microsoft 365
  • Social media (Facebook, Instagram, X)
  • Confidence to speak with members of the public, KFCA staff and other volunteers
  • Good communication skills – friendly, helpful, calm & confident approach
  • Understanding of and respect for a range of cultures, backgrounds and diversities 
  • Good spoken English
  • Good timekeeping
  • Well organised
  • Patient
  • Friendly
  • Willingness to take up opportunities for further training e.g. afternoon/morning of ‘digital champion’ training (food & travel costs will be provided).

This role does not require a DBS check.

This role is suited to a student who is doing a computer / digital science related course, a course that has an element of social justice, political studies, community engagement or civic involvement…… and has great digital skills that they would like to share.

We will reimburse costs for travel to & from the centre (mileage / bus fares), free food & refreshments and provide free parking if required.
