The Environmental Sustainability and Energy Team at LJMU are working on a number of workstreams, including carbon and energy, biodiversity, waste, and travel, among others. Volunteering with the team not only supports LJMU to reach its objectives for environmental sustainability, but will provide learning experiences and opportunities to make a positive impact on campus and in the local community.
Estate Development and Education will be partnering with Scouse Flowerhouse to undertake soil improvements along Maryland Street. We currently have a row of well-established trees that have compacted soil underneath. In order to allow for future planting and seeding of wildflowers under the trees we need to improve the condition and permeability of the soil, we will do this by spreading local leaf litter and Mersey grit below the trees to allow the build-up of a new nutritious soil layer.
We’re looking for some keen students to help us spread the materials across the site.
