My priorities

  1. Assist with Cost of Living

  2. Support Nighttime Safety

  3. Improve Student Outreach

As VP for Community and Wellbeing, I aim to improve student’s lives by helping during the Cost of Living, continuing to improve and uphold Nighttime Safety, and to increase Student Outreach.

The Cost of Living crisis is ongoing, and maintenance loans only stretch so far. The maximum funding students receive to survive on is less than half of a full-time job at even National Living Wage. As such, I want to continue and expand the JMSU’s efforts to give students free cleaning and hygiene products, toiletries, and generally useful items. On top of this, I want to explore bringing back the JMSU kitchens.

The Nighttime Safety efforts of the JMSU are still incredibly important, and I would continue raising awareness about key issues like spiking and nightlife safety along with continuing support for movements like reclaim the night. I believe more in person sessions about first aid and anti-spiking for Student Leaders and even offering digital sessions open to all students could vastly improve nights for the thousands of students of LJMU.

University can be a difficult and isolating experience at times and as a result, I promise to improve Student Outreach. There is so much to offer from the University, JMSU, and the City as a whole, yet many students are left unaware or only hear about useful services after they're really struggling. I aim to actively promote services to students and be someone that any student can reach out to for support and guidance, whenever they need.

Thank you,
