My name is Barry O’Boyle, and I would be honoured to represent JMSU, Sports, Societies and YOU in the Vice President Activities role.

As an Irish Student living here in Liverpool, I’ve lived the experience of moving into unfamiliarity. Greeted by a sense of loneliness and lack of belonging, I fully grasp the vital role our Student Union plays in the transition to university life.

Becoming a member of the Gaming Society changed everything, I’ve met people who will one day attend my wedding! Alongside my Film Studies degree I became the President of the society and have been for 18 months, even working with brands such as Monster and Red bull!

Despite being neurodivergent and tracking this very bumpy road, the thought of that lost student is my driving force. Everyone belongs somewhere. I aim to provide both members and committees with resources to encourage that, because joining a friend group should not be such a daunting experience.

As VP Activities I will work to achieve:

  • Improved accessibility for societies [support for students with social anxiety]

  • a society/sports member reward scheme [incentivise better turnout at events]

  • an excellent Movember Campaign

  • committee workshops [providing further skills in video making/graphic design for societies]

I am a loyal, ambitious and determined individual and care deeply for the people around me. Having worked service jobs all my life I now wish to serve YOU. I will work with every fibre of my being to prove I belong at JMSU.
