Hi, I’m Joe Long and I’m running for VP of Activities. In this role I want to: ensure student groups are open and enjoyable, committees are dedicated and enjoy their work, and JMSU is involved and supportive. I’m involved with JMSU as Anime Society President and as a member of Climbing, Open Water Swimming, and various other societies. This provides me with a wide range of experience and understanding of group’s needs.
Goals
Open and enjoyable student groups,
creating student groups where everyone can feel welcome and that provide wider ranging and inclusive activities through:
-Encouraging more varied socials, activities, and collaborations
-Seeking financial support for students struggling to afford membership and equipment
-Focused training on how to involve more student demographics
Supporting and recognising committees,
allowing them to have less stress and spend more time and effort on their roles with:
-Academic support, and potential extensions for committees
-Dedicated committee personal wellbeing training and events
-Consistent, effective processes for dealing with problematic and harmful members
An involved and supportive JMSU,
making student groups feel involved and respected in a JMSU that works for them through:
-Student groups Highlight Months
-Increased involvement of groups in planning events
-Taking part more in group’s activities myself
-Re-allowing use of SLB on Fridays
-Improved communication between JMSU and university
I hope to achieve these goals over the coming year, improving the experiences of all JMSU members.
